چکیده

The increased production of biogas through the anaerobic digestion (AD) process has raised several concerns regarding management liquid digestate, which can present some environmental risks if not properly handled. Among different techniques to treat AD microalgae and cyanobacteria cultivation emerged as a sustainable approach valorizing digestate while producing valuable biomass for biofuels high value bioproducts. However, intrinsic parameters strongly limit or growth well uptake residual nutrients. In this study, detoxification potential activated carbon (AC) was evaluated on agro-industrial prior Spirulina platensis cultivation. Different doses AC, ranging from 5 100 g/L, were tested during adsorption experiments in order determine capacity removal efficiency compounds. Experimental results showed reactivity especially towards phosphate (PO4-P), total phenol (TP) chemical oxygen demand (COD). At dosage 50 AC pretreatment successfully achieved 54.7%, 84.7% 50.0% COD, TP PO4-P removal, corresponding 94.7 mgDCO/g, 17.9 mgTP/g 8.7 mgPO4-P/g, respectively. Even did show significant effects toxicity assays, step participated by removing hardly biodegradable molecules such phenolic

Microalgae Cultivation on Anaerobic Digestate of Municipal Wastewater, Sewage Sludge and Agro-Waste

Microalgae are fast-growing photosynthetic organisms which have the potential to be exploited as an alternative source of liquid fuels to meet growing global energy demand. The cultivation of microalgae, however, still needs to be improved in order to reduce the cost of the biomass produced. Among the major costs encountered for algal cultivation are the costs for nutrients such as CO₂, nitroge...

Protein production by Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis in solid state cultivation using sugarcane bagasse as support

The genus Arthrospira comprises a group of filamentous multicellular cyanobacteria and can be used for animal feed and human food. Solid state fermentation or cultivation (SSF) involves the use of a culture medium composed of solid material with given moisture content. No studies have been published about the cultivation of microalgae or cyanobacteria on solid medium. Furthermore, although suga...

Valorization of agro-industrial wastes towards the production of rhamnolipids.

In this work, oil mill wastewater (OMW), a residue generated during olive oil extraction, was evaluated as an inducer of rhamnolipid production. Using a medium containing as sole ingredients corn steep liquor (10%, v/v), sugarcane molasses (10%, w/v) and OMW (25%, v/v), Pseudomonas aeruginosa #112 produced 4.5 and 5.1g of rhamnolipid per liter in flasks and reactor, respectively, with critical ...

Uptake of toxic metals from wastewater by activated carbon from agro industrial by-product

Activated carbon prepared from neem oilcake, by pyrolysis accompanied with microwave oven activation is evaluated for the adsorption of Cd(II) and Ni(II) from wastewater. Parameters such as pH, agitation time, metal ion concentration and adsorbent dose are studied. The percent removal increased with pH from 2.0 to 7.0. The adsorption data fit well with Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm m...

Algal treatment of a mixture of urban wastewater and Vinasse using Spirulina platensis microalgae

Background and Objective: Algal wastewater treatment is a new and economic technology to remove and recycle nutrients from wastewater. In order to investigate the effect of vinasse on microalgae growth and also the effect of its growth on nitrogen and phosphate removal in a mixture of urban wastewater and vinasse, the growth of Spirulina platensis was studied. Materials and Methods: Growth abi...
